Work with designs and redesigns of new and existing products to complement and enhance product offerings and continually improve quality, minimize production costs and sustain a competitive advantage in the air movement and control industry. Work closely with marketing/sales on new product concepts, features and/or SDR's. Independent judgment must be exercised frequently. Assignments are received in the form of results expected, but employee has considerable freedom to decide work priorities and procedures to be followed. Specialized skills for these individuals are required at this level. Areas of expertise may include: electrical motor control circuits, controls, machine design, product development (manage projects), PDX system design, testing or quality.

The Engineering Specialist must have:

  • Work requires extensive technical or specialized training such as that which would be acquired in the first two or three years of college or technical school
  • 5 - 7 years of work experience
  • Product or system knowledge is STRONGLY preferred but not required
  • Familarity with Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA), and Underwriters' Laboratories (UL)
  • (UL) tests/methods is preferred


As the Engineering Specialist, you will:

  • Develop new product designs and redesigns in coordination with sales, marketing and manufacturing functions
  • Oversee the prototyping and testing of new designs, including the interpretation of test results. May be required to set up and run test equipment
  • Conduct and/or review the testing of new designs on air control and architectural products. May interface with agencies associated with certifying products (AMCA, UL, etc.)
  • Collect, document and analyze test data
  • Provide overall support for prototyping, and developing test methods/set ups for fatigue loading, cycling, torque, etc.
  • Communicates results to project sponsors both written and verbally
  • May provide technical consultation internally to sales and marketing personnel and external to customers
  • May visit job sites to review installation and/or design problems and make a determination as to the best way to resolve the situation and may resolve simple field problems
  • Diagnose and provide recommendations to improve products to keep projects advancing at desired pace
  • Participate in value engineering projects to continually improve the cost efficiency of design and manufacturing processes
  • May participate in any/all external agency approval (i.e., UL AMCA)
  • Review/ Evaluate returned goods and determine root cause of failures and disposition of materials
  • Manage multiple projects in accordance with predetermined completion dates
  • May have direct reports
  • May have indirect supervision over a design team(s)
