General Summary

Perform tasks related to the design and manufacture of machinery, tooling and automation.  These machines will be used in Greenheck manufacturing facilities for custom fabrication and forming of Greenheck products.  Job also includes diagnosing and troubleshooting issues with existing tooling as well as designing for new construction.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design New and Refurbished Equipment and Tooling for Manufacturing
    • Produce accurate prints with required tolerances ensuring assembly and interchangeability
    • Produce accurate workable 3D models
    • Design and specify hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • Design for ergonomic and safe work stations
    • Create designs that meet project scope functionality and cost targets
    • Participate in tooling design reviews and provide suggestions for improvement where necessary
  • Project Management
    • Develop project scope and written specifications
    • Order components and materials in a timely manner
    • Schedule end of project activities (Safety sign-off, Machine run-off, Shipping)
    • Assist in tracking tool progress in terms of budget and timing
    • Oversee the prototyping and testing of new designs.  May be required to set up and run test equipment. 
    • Collaborate and communicate within a team environment with product designers, process engineers, production personnel, toolmakers, and various vendors to optimize tool design.
  • Support/Customer Service
    • Analyze product designs for manufacturing feasibility and make recommendations to delivery time, cost, and part quality.
    • Support business units with equipment breakdowns, process improvements, LEAN manufacturing items
    • Assist with testing, training and final run-off of the machine for the customer 
  • Documentation
    • Assist with Preventative Maintenance documentation prior to shipment
    • Assist with MSLP (Safety Documentation) creation to identify energy sources
    • Assist with the creation of operational procedures
    • Create maintenance manual
    • Update prints and purchased items lists

Job Qualifications:

  • Work requires extensive technical or specialized training such as that which would be acquired in the first two or three years of college or technical school.
  • 5-7 years machine / tool design experience
  • Strong CAD skills (3D tool design: Inventor preferred)
  • Ability to visualize complex 3-dimensional geometry and motion 
  • Possess creative/innovative mechanical aptitude
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Willing and able to work in a team environment 
  • Basic knowledge of electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is preferred
