Your Opportunity:
As a Machine Design Engineer/Specialist at Greenheck you will perform tasks that are related to the design and manufacture of machinery, tooling, and automation. These machines will be used in Greenheck's manufacturing facilities for custom fabrication and forming of Greenheck products. You will have the opportunity to diagnose and troubleshoot issues with existing tooling as well as designing for new construction.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design and develop new machine and tooling designs and redesigns in coordination with engineering and manufacturing functions.
- Manage multiple projects and assist with the cost analysis process, submitting design proposals, evaluating and specifying tooling requirements that are needed to design and build moderate/complex machines.
- Develop bill-of-materials on new and changed designs.
- Maintains drawing files (CAD, PDF and other documentation).
- Oversee the transition from design into production, including any necessary testing, installation and training required for implementing new or changed designs. Lead the safety sign-off in compliance with OSHA and ergonomics.
- Evaluate material selection, cost analysis, and vendors as required. Review the selection and specification of purchased component parts for moderately complex systems.
- Oversee the prototyping and testing of machine concepts, including the interpretation of test results. May be required to set up and run test equipment.
- Conduct and/or review the testing of machine start-up, interpreting results and recommending and/or implementing necessary corrective action based on test results.
- Analyze product designs for manufacturing feasibility and make recommendations to delivery time, cost and part quality.
- Support business units with equipment breakdowns, process improvements, and LEAN manufacturing.
- Assist with testing, training, and final run-off of the machine for the customer.
- Provide technical direction to shop floor personnel/maintenance to correct design problems as they arise.
- Communicate and/or resolve design problems to appropriate engineering personnel for corrective action. Responsible for resolving all issues as they arise.
- Assist with documentation including preventative maintenance documentation, safety documentation, creation of operational procedures, maintenance manual, and prints and purchased items list prior to shipment.
- Assist in resolution of machine/process issues in production.
- Actively participate (lead/facilitate) in process improvement projects to continually improve the cost efficiency of design and manufacturing processes.
- Travel may be required.
What you should have:
- Minimum 2 Year/ associate degree in mechanical design is required.
- A 4-year degree in engineering or in an engineering related field is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of Inventor systems and design practices is required.
- Ability to specify and troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- General understanding of manufacturing processes and capabilities.
- High level of analytical ability required.
- Project management skills are a plus.
