General Summary

Directly supervise maintenance mechanics.  Support corporate objectives by continuously improving machine availability and reliability while preserving superior product quality, safety, and employee relations.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop/create a weekly schedule for planned preventative maintenance activities.  Then, execute the weekly schedule making adjustments as required.  Coordinate quick, efficient response to equipment breakdowns or other emergency work orders.
  • Assure mechanics have the required training and skill sets for the work being performed. Continuously cross-train the mechanics and assure further development of each mechanic’s skills and abilities.
  • Ensure safety practices are executed, including the use of protective equipment as required.  Maintain work areas to meet or exceed company housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Give daily direction to mechanics.  Provide technical leadership by answering daily inquiries and assisting with solving problems.  Coordinate communication with team leaders across all shifts to ensure smooth transitions between shifts.
  • Complete routine administrative tasks such as approving time and attendance, reviewing the vacation schedule, etc.
  • Assure mechanic workmanship meets corporate quality standards.  Conduct routine audits of completed work orders to assure work standards are upheld and documentation is thorough and accurate.
  • Maintain good working knowledge of current labor agreement and applicable government regulations.
  • Provide technical consultation with others in the organization concerning process operation and capabilities.
  • Stay informed of new developments in maintenance and safety technology and implement as required.
  • Proactively support continuous improvement activities.

 

Job Specifications

 

  • Work requires extensive technical or specialized training such as that which would be acquired in the first two or three years of college or technical school.
  • 3 through 5 years of progressively more responsible work experience is required.
  • Moderate analytical ability required.  Analysis requires research to obtain new information to completely analyze problematic data.  Interpretation of data to identify trends in situations where the problems are complex.
  • Familiarity period of 1-2 years.
  • Most often receives non-standard work assignments.  Solutions/procedures usually found through trial and error usage of established options that may or may not work.
  • Position has no access to confidential/sensitive information.
  • Independent judgment must be exercised frequently.  Assignments are received in the form of results expected, due dates and general procedures to be followed.  Refers questionable cases to immediate supervisor.
  • Impact of decisions on results is moderate.  May create/eliminate waste such that expenditure on labor or materials is necessary to correct.  Limited to internal concerns.
  • Frequency of internal and external contacts is very frequent.  From 51% to 80% of work time.
  • The likely impact of communication on the Company's overall success is moderate.  Matters of some importance are discussed.  The overall success of the Company would be influenced by decisions.
  • Frequent exposure to one or more unpleasant and/or hazardous conditions or travel. (21-50% of work time).
  • Supervisory duties 20% or more of work time spent on supervisory tasks.
  • Supervisory duties may occasionally perform work of subordinates.  May or may not ultimately be responsible for area operations.
