General Summary:

Optimize factory costs, quality, and customer service through the conception, development, and implementation of new or improved manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, material flow, plant layout, or product design.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop processes, procedures and supporting documentation to enhance cost, quality and customer service while ensuring safety and compliance with government regulations.
    • Major drivers include productivity, material utilization, value engineering, lead time management, schedule attainment, and improved throughput.
  • Coordinate and implement training initiatives to support manufacturing.
  • Participate in process improvement teams and lean initiatives
  • Specify and justify capital expenditures.
  • Purchase and implement tooling and equipment to support daily operations.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Recognize and propose design changes to improve manufacturability.
  • Support and participate in value engineering initiatives.
  • Identify and implement improvements to material utilization, cell layout and machinery efficiency.
  • Provide summarized data to influence key management decisions relating to budgeting, staffing, and capacity planning. 
  • Participate in training and skills development with ME Manager for development on Lean Manufacturing

 

Job Qualifications:

 

Work requires a professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, which is equivalent to that which would be acquired by completing a regular four-year college program in an Engineering discipline.

 

  • Basic AutoCAD and project management skills a plus
  • SAP experience is a plus
  • Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts

 

Business Unit Specific Qualifications:

 

The team member for this role will start out on an off shift as a Production Supervisor and transition to full time Manufacturing Engineer after 12-16 months.  During this time period the individual work schedule will overlap with manufacturing engineer main work schedule to develop the support structure for the team member in this role.  In this role the team member will have the unique opportunity to become intimate with manufacturing processes, product design and equipment while supporting production.  This role will be 75% of their responsibilities focused on production supervision and 25% of their time focused on manufacture engineering related topics during this 12-16 month period.

 

As a Production Supervisor the team member will be responsible for:

 

  • Direct supervision of hourly production employees.  Monitor work performance issues, maintain appropriate records, prepare and conduct attendance and work performance disciplinary follow ups.  Answer daily inquiries and assist in solving shop floor problems.  Address non-performing employees and work team effectively.             
  • Communicate staffing and efficiency changes of critical work centers and monitor daily execution against the plan to determine capacity changes (overtime or employee transfers) required to execute the schedule.   
  • Ensure employees have a safety work environment.       
  • Provide direction to the shop for any issues with production orders including special design requests.
