The product development engineer will work closely with sales, marketing, and manufacturing to develop new product designs, including but not limited to electrical and controls design. They will produce redesigns of existing products or components to complement and enhance product offerings in order to sustain a competitive market advantage.They will work to improve on processes, implement testing procedures, and drive operational efficiency with regards to both fan product and electrical designs and controls programming. Assignments are received in the form of results expected, and employee has considerable freedom to decide work priorities and procedures to be followed.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop new product designs, electrical or controls designs, and redesigns in coordination with sales, marketing, service, and manufacturing functions.  Ensure products meet control design functionality of required points of operation and design intent

• Assist in the identification of controls strategies for optimal use of product applications.  Review, clarify, and validate deliverables to both internal and external customers

• Develop bill of materials and translation documents related to new or changed designs

• Support the transition from design into production, including any necessary testing and training required for implementing new or changed designs

•  Oversee the prototyping and testing of new designs, including interpretation of test results. Will be required to set up and run test equipment

• Conduct and/or review the testing of new designs, interpreting test data, and recommending and/or implementing necessary corrective action based on test data. Will interface with agencies associated with certification of products (AMCA, UL, etc.)

• Work with marketing to develop scope for enhancements on existing products

• Evaluate components for quality, reliability and performance and make recommendations to purchasing and manufacturing

• Participate in value engineering projects to continually improve designs and processes

• Provide technical support via phone and e-mail for both internal and external sales people including the areas of product selection and application

• Visit job sites to review installation and/or design problems and resolve the situation

• Provide content for the development and updating of product literature

• Maintain accurate and current documentation on design changes and requests

• Communicate solutions for unique applications including design and special pricing

• May attend trade shows

• Responsible for identifying key selling points

• Review specifications to clarify and validate deliverables to both internal and external customers

• Aid in preparing calculations and cost analysis for changes in the product offerings

• Creation of new procedures, processes or relationships.  Often responsible for identifying changes that need to be made in current procedures

• Collaborate with the shop floor and listen to their ideas and opportunities.  Prioritize and pursue the most important concerns. Assist in resolving issues as they arise

• Review/evaluate returned goods and determine root cause of failures and disposition of materials

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, or similar, required
  • Between 0-3 years of relevant work experience is required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in accordance with predetermined completion dates
  • Experience with PLC and ladder logic or block programming tools.  Tools such as ProBuilder (Lynxspring), C-Suite, C-Touch etc. is a plus
  • Experience with building management system protocols such as BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus is a plus
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience is required
  • HVAC experience, HVAC network communication or education is a plus
  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s) and various motor types/technologies is a plus
