General Summary:

Identify, define, manage, track, and implement process improvement efforts within SAP plant maintenance (PM) and overall maintenance department. This will include, but is not limited to, defining current business processes, system utilization and the exploration of new processes and tools through implementation of those new processes while partnering with maintenance and manufacturing excellence leadership. Works in direct support of maintenance, IT, engineering, and manufacturing to reduce costs, reduce errors, and standardize maintenance processes. The Maintenance SAP Specialist will develop and implement the necessary technologies to further utilize preventative and predictive tools to maximize equipment uptime. This position is a critical link between our corporate IT teams and everyday business unit operations across the organization.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with Maintenance Managers/Supervisors to develop and prioritize an on-going list of projects.
  • Define and manage the deliverables of the SAP Plant Maintenance implementation while staying within budget.
  • Participate in and lead several projects that relate directly to customer satisfaction, productivity gains and/or cost savings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with business leaders, and SMEs.
  • Work closely with the corporate IT teams to assist in the definition of system requirements to support process improvements.
  • Translate maintenance requirements into system specifications.
  • Own the integration of the necessary technology to enable equipment data collection that will dictate preventative and predicative maintenance.
  • Own the development of the interface to support mobile maintenance functionality
  • Develop programs to generate maintenance metrics.
  • Be a hands-on application expert and prepare / review project deliverables (e.g. benefits realization strategy, process maps, control matrices, testing scenarios, user acceptance tests, business process procedures) to ensure they meet project objectives.
  • Audit existing maintenance processes to ensure documented procedures and best practices are being followed.
  • Coordinate, implement, and present process related training initiatives to support maintenance.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for maintenance processes.
  • Identify and implement improvements to maintenance and manufacturing systems.
  • Be able to write proposals and contribute to pursuit effort.
  • Mentor and provide facilitation assistance on relevant SAP PM projects.
  • May supervise support staff as this position evolves. 


Maintenance Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Has developed a comprehensive understanding of SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) module.
  • Experience in gathering requirements, develops and documents designs, configures and unit tests the Plant Maintenance, Calibration functionality in SAP.
  • Hands on Experience in Scheduling, preventive maintenance process, break down maintenance process mapping in SAP.
  • Understands critical spare parts inventory and processes.
  • Ability to communicate and work seamlessly with all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to support our multi-plant regional landscape. 



Job Qualifications: 

Work requires a professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, which is equivalent to that which would be acquired by completing a regular four-year bachelor’s degree.

Between 5-7 years of work experience is required.


  • Ability to manage multiple projects required. 
  • Experience blueprinting, gathering business requirements, documentation and training preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the multiple SAP modules and the ability to research & apply business best practices.
  • SAP experience required.
  • SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) highly preferred.
  • Business and IT experience with experience in implementing and operating SAP applications.
  • Experience designing and improving business process and controls with deep business process re-engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate project goals and objectives, project status and deliverables with senior executives.
  • High level of analytical skills required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Self-motivating and be able to plan own work.
  • Must possess strong leadership skills and excellent customer service skills.
  • An understanding of supply chain management--including inventory management, manufacturing principles, quality management, maintenance and purchasing.
