General Summary:

The Distribution Manager is responsible for administering the distribution and logistics functions ensuring timely delivery of Greenheck Group contract carrier managed and backhaul shipments within budget, on-time shipping, and KPI goals. In addition, this position enlists and qualifies various 3PL carriers/network, monitors their performance, provides settlement, and claims management, and monitors accessorial charges and related programs such as distribution/warehousing management. This position will be responsible for independently managing a regional distribution center operation. Autonomously responsible for the campus warehouse and delivery activities across a multi-state region. Simultaneously supports sales revenue growth goals while fulfilling mission of executing the business in a safe and cost-effective manner while delivering an elevated level of perfect order performance (complete & on time to the quality expectations). This role will function as a team member within the department and will have responsibility for several operating company logistics operations and coordination of those functions between Greenheck Group and its various entities and across business segments within the assigned region(s).


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of the shipping team members. Monitor work performance issues, maintain appropriate records, prepare, and conduct attendance and work performance reprimands. 
  • Under direction of the Director of Global Logistics, is a member of a divisional team charged with developing and executing business and operating plans and budgets designed to fulfill the strategic plan of the corporation in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee morale within assigned geography while incorporating the overall logistics strategy in Shelby, NC.
  • Direct management team at center level to translate corporate and regional plans and initiatives into center-specific operating plan and budget, as well as identification and measurement of appropriate performance indicators on which to base ongoing monitoring and management of the center.
  • Identify and develop the skills and abilities of the regional logistics team to meet the needs of the organization and customers. Key attributes they must incorporate into the overall HR strategy include continuous improvement, safety, and individual development.
  • Support the development of efficient and effective processes supporting receipt and storage of Greenheck products and their flow through the distribution and warehousing facility. Achieved by implementing proper facility layout and processes necessary to assure minimal product travel and minimal handling transactions through product delivery.
  • Collaborate and influence supply chain leaders across the business to meet or exceed the customer’s expectations at the lowest possible operating costs. Deliver effective communications and influence on all levels of the organization to meet the needs of the supply chain, employees, and customers, keeping them abreast of the planned and unplanned developments and opportunities.
  • Establish, manage, and oversee NCDC campus selection and utilization of small parcel, LTL, TL carriers for best value, capacity, reliability, and customer service; implementing improved layout for shops and warehouse and maximize cube utilization of warehouse and trucks. Also achieve cost reduction through route optimization of the delivery function/3PL networks.
  • Project management, resource planning and allocation, budget, performance analysis, and performance tracking are important functions of the role.
  • All other duties that may be deemed necessary.


Business Unit Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

This role is specific to the Shelby, NC Campus.  The right candidate will have warehousing, supply chain, logistics, operations, and distribution experience.  Directly responsible for all safety, transportation, receiving, inventory, training and loading of finished product.  Supporting processes that improve accountability and enhance team metrics is essential.


Job Qualifications:

Work requires a professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, which is equivalent to that which would be acquired by completing a regular four-year college program or bachelor’s degree.

  • Between 7-10+ years of managerial experience (production plant or Logistics distribution/transportation), of which at least eight will be in a department management (Manufacturing, Logistics, Supply Chain Management and/or Customer Service) and/or facility-wide management capacity in a successful business environment.
  • SAP experience preferred but not required.
  • Continuous improvement training preferred but not required.
  • Must have the ability to work in a flexible work environment and adapt to changes quickly.


Business Unit Specific Qualifications:

  • Proven understanding of areas related to logistic operations and materials as they relate to the overall day to day operation.
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate a team and ability to develop/mentor others.
  • Monitor metrics relative to logistics operations (outbound and inbound delivery reports, loading/unloading, receiving and inventory accuracy).
  • Demonstrate skill in developing effective business plans, budgets, and operating plans.
  • Display strong bias toward operating the business via measurement, monitoring, and reporting of key performance indicators in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Employee Engagement with strong assessment/evaluation and team building skills.
  • Possess and demonstrate strong ability in process definition, improvement, documentation, and training, and instilling the discipline to operate via those processes in a manner that encourages others to act or embrace a point of view.
  • Demonstrate positive regard for others and the ability to communicate effectively with customers, sales counterparts, management, and employees. Adjust own personal approach to better meet the style needs of and influence others while energizing the team.
  • Advanced knowledge of buyer/procurement practices and supplier relationships.
  • Ability to work with other business units in a fast-paced environment where priorities change rapidly.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines daily to support carrier requirements supporting customer need.
