TITLE: Materials Specialist


FLSA:  Exempt



General Summary:

Directly execute the receipt of purchased and manufactured parts and material.  Support corporate net sales objectives by striving to continually meet or exceed company on-time shipping goals by providing timely distribution of materials/parts to the various manufacturing areas. Insure that inventory accuracy goals are met and maintained.  Provide day to day production support to manufacturing.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate with plant scheduling and purchasing to identify and resolve key material issues preventing customer on time delivery and /or schedule attainment.
  • Coordinate stocking requirements with material specialists at other campus facilities as well as purchasing team.
  • Minimize the possibility of production delays attributed to ‘stock outs’ by developing and executing a formal controlled system of stocking, labeling and relieving of purchased and manufactured parts. Research and proactively resolve differences.
  • Work directly with suppliers and purchasing to resolve raw material quality issues and achieve a satisfactory financial resolution. 
  • Identify and work with other departments to set up inventory related master data of new parts.
  • Prepare and deliver shop floor paperwork related to the warehouse management and inventory management function.  Determine what paperwork should be produced and when.
  • Monitor and adjust stocking levels as needed to ensure an acceptable turnover.
  • Identify, document and implement changes that need to be made to existing inventory control processes and procedures.
  • Coordinate and execute cycle counting activities.
  • Identify, lead and implement inventory reduction projects that align with corporate objectives.
  • Effective supervision of receiving and /or material control employees.
  • Coordinate engineering change notices & item activity notices between all constituents (planners, product engineers, IE engineers, buyers and business units) to ensure smooth, efficient, and timely model and component changeovers in support of business unit objectives while minimizing scrap and obsolete inventory.
  • Support new and existing product development releases to the shop floor.  This includes defining process flow and creating or updating routings, replenishment policies, capacity planning and standard operating procedures.

Business Unit Specific Duties & Responsibilities:



Job Qualifications:

  • Requires either a four-year college degree or the equivalent professional level experience in a specialized field (or a combination of an Associate’s degree with equivalent work experience).
  • Between 1-3 years of manufacturing work experience is required.
  • SAP experience is required.
  • APICS CPIM certification a plus.
  • Continuous improvement training preferred but not required.
  • Moderate analytical ability required.  Any analysis requires breaking down of information to determine its elements, historical comparisons, interpretation of data to identify trends in situations where the problems are somewhat complex.
  • Must have the ability to work to in a flexible work environment and adapt to change quickly.
